Manassas Data Center

One of the major challenges for large-scale data centers is how to modulate the façade to soften its massive walls. This design was also the first for this data center operator and therefore the owner desired a statement which would set this apart. This was achieved thru creating planes of walls that were further accentuated by changes in color. A unique pattern was cast into the exterior precast walls to announce its high tech contemporary use which featured white reveals in an angled pattern on the grey walls which enclosed the office and support areas, and grey angled reveals on the white walls that were set back and enclose computer pods. Further modulation was achieved thru large curtainwall sections on the front façade.

Construction duration was an amazing 14 months. This speed was accomplished with fast track of total precast design, early award of precast such that all precast arrived on site as soon as foundations were ready, pre-purchase of long lead items such as generators, rooftop Kyoto units, and major electrical equipment further contributed.
